Film festival: 'A well-trained monkey could do my job'

Luis Nieto, maker of Capucine, explains that creativity is nothing more than free association – something even a monkey movie-maker can do

What drove you to make Capucine? (see opposite)

At first I wanted to do a generalist documentary about capuchins. They are a peculiar monkey with a very developed consciousness and a sophisticated connection with humans. However, during an interview with primatologist Bertrand Deputte, he told me about Capucine. I immediately contacted Professor Shibuya and decided to focus my documentary only on Capucine. For me, as a director, this experiment about a monkey film-maker was much more interesting.
