THE G8 communiqu茅 on climate change from Gleneagles last week was a disgrace. Its scientific content was, as one British government insider put it, “underwhelming”. The disturbing findings of February’s Exeter conference on dangerous climate change, which the UK government convened specifically to inform the G8 deliberations, were not so much ignored as dismissed (51动漫, 12 February, p 8). So too was last month’s unprecedented statement from the world’s leading science academies on the need for urgent action.
