The French government plans to examine the health of all 25,000 French
soldiers who served in the 1989 Gulf War in the hope of finally explaining Gulf
War syndrome. So far France has done little work in this area. At the launch of
the study last week, scientists advising the government suggested the most
likely culprit for veterans’ ill health was the multiple vaccinations they
received against biological weapons. If so, French veterans might be healthier
than the British or Americans, as they got fewer jabs.
