Gregarious cyclists who find that two is too few for company can now
put tandems behind them, with a bicycle built for eight. Eric Staller, his
family and several of his friends recently completed a successful run on
‘Octos’ in New York’s Central Park. Romance is out, teamwork in; the bike
demands the combined pedal power of seven pairs of legs, plus extra effort
and steering skills from the lead cyclist. Staller’s son, in the baby seat,
went along for the ride. Teamwork from Staller, his wife Deborah and their
friend Tim Mills produced the machine in four months.
