One of the key goals of biologists around the world is to understand the internal workings of cells, in particular how they go wrong in diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s.

A new competition celebrates this work by highlighting the best images of cells. The is run by to promote their , a system for producing detailed images of cells’ workings.

The company asked the scientists who used the system to submit their best images to the competition, which until 5 January 2009.
