The next generation of cellphones will be more like tiny computers than dumb telephones鈥攕o a 3G phone could be disabled by a computer virus. But limited memory means users won鈥檛 want to waste space on anti-virus software, says security firm F-secure of Finland. It proposes pre-loading all phones with anti-virus software in an area of reserved memory, alongside a library of software 鈥渢raps鈥 for known viruses (GB 2368233). To keep the protection up to date, the network automatically checks which traps are in the phone every time it is switched on, and downloads any extra ones against new viruses.
