POST-TRAUMATIC stress disorder (PTSD) runs in families, hinting at
environmental as well as genetic risk factors. Rachel Yehuda at the Bronx
Veterans Affairs Medical Center in New York studied adults whose parents had
survived the Holocaust. They were much more likely to suffer from PTSD if their
parents had. Previous research has hinted at a genetic link, but Yehuda thinks
living with a traumatised parent might also be a factor.
