AIDS activists attacked President Bush last week after the US pledged just
$200 million to the UN International AIDS Fund. The fund coordinates
money from wealthy countries and benefactors to get medicines to the people who
need them most. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan is hoping to raise up to
$10 billion, and last week asked the US for more money. The US was the
first country to announce its contribution. 鈥淚t sets the bar too low,鈥 says Paul
Davis of AIDS activist group ACT UP in Philadelphia. 鈥淚 think that President
Bush doesn鈥檛 care if 20 million Africans drop dead.鈥
