Good news for bedtime scribblers: a simple ballpoint pen that works at
unusual angles. The ink reservoir in a pen normally runs along the inside of its
barrel, but the new pen from Mellen Peirce of London has a flexible reservoir,
which protrudes through a hole in the side of the pen (GB 2 329 155). When
packed in a protective jacket, the flexible reservoir is held flat along the
side of the barrel. When the jacket is removed, the tube springs up to stand
proud at an angle. Point this tube up and the ink will still run down to the
ballpoint under gravity even when the pen itself is level or pointing
upwards.
