John Gribbin’s Almost Everyone’s Guide to Science is a lightning-speed tour
of everything, taking in atoms, particles and fields, life, the Earth and the
Universe at large. He tells it well, and because most of the material is not
controversial, there are no obvious blunders. Instead, he risks making science
look like a finished object instead of the work in progress we know it to be.
