Stefan Rozental has given a straightforward title, Niels Bohr, to his
straightforward reminiscences of working with the great Danish physicist. The
book chronicles an adventurous life, not only as a nuclear scientist but also as
a beleaguered researcher under German occupation. The strain of working under
these extraordinary conditions, and of helping develop the atomic bomb in the
US, never seemed to affect Bohr’s good humour or brilliance as a scientist. This
is a new edition of an affectionate and revealing book, evidently a steady
