Robinson has once again reeled off another cheap and popular addition to its
Mammoth range of books in the form of 1000 Great Lives (£5.99, ISBN 1
85487 510 8). The collection of biographies, ranging from scientists, artists
and writers to political leaders and sports personalities, over complete life
careers in a single, and some would argue insufficient paragraph.
Unquestionably, the highlight of the book is the two hundred plus boxes
containing lesser known snippets and quotes from selected lives—for
example, did you know that Vladimir Nabokov, Russian author of Lolita, was a
keen butterfly collector and identified the species Eupithecia nabokovi?
